Bird and Woodyard report that in 2005, a Volkswagen Toureg named “Stanley” won a DARPA’s driverless vehicle contest in Nevada. It was driven by a team from Stanford University.
Bird and Woodyard quote VW as saying that TAP is meant only to be used as “a second pair of eyes on the road in case of driver distraction or fatigue.”
Volkswagen sees TAP as being used “during monotonous driving situations such as heavy stop-and-go city traffic….” just like that commute that had me pulling my hair out and acting like an insane person.

According to police reports, last Sept. 25 Velasco’s son tumbled out of the bed of his father’s pickup truck. The family was moving and the boy was reportedly trying to hold on to a basketball goal.
Douglas County prosecutors have filed charges against the 39-year-old Velasco and a judge ordered Velasco to sit in jail for four months. Hopefully he’ll take the time to get his head on straight. Also, the judge ordered him to pay a $1,500 fine. All in all this reminds me of a recent case in Kansas City. Diepenbrock also reported that Velasco’s estimated blood-alcohol content following the accident was more than 2.5 times the legal driving limit of 0.08.
Alas, it seems Velasco is not listening to the angel sitting on his shoulder. When he showed up for sentencing it was delayed because he had been drinking. In the end, he pleaded guilty.
Also according to the Lawrence Journal-World’s by Diepenbrock, District Judge Paula Martin ordered Juan Velasco to attend Alcoholics Anonymous meetings and obtain a sponsor as part of the conditions of a two-year probation term that will follow when he’s released from jail at the end of July.
Velasco was quoted as saying, “I apologize for what happened…….”
It seems that Martin sent Velasco to jail after he was found to be intoxicated in court March 18 but had mercifully allowed him to be released on weekdays to work to make money to pay his child support.
Some people believe that alcoholism is a disease like any other, that some people are predisposed to it and cannot help themselves. Is Juan Alonzo Velasco such a person? If so, should he be in jail at all?
I mean I can’t imagine getting auto or car insurance, at least utah state insurance would be really hard to get at this point.
There are so many ways that alcoholism manifests itself, it is endlessly confusing. A few people find a way to quit on their own. Were those people really alcoholics to begin with?

Geeks and blogs go on and on about iPhone slide-out keyboards and edge to edge screens. Will Jobs or won’t he? I love my iPod Classic and for that matter my iPad and iPhone, but they can be hard to repair in a hurry, unfortunately. On the whole, you need an independent internet phone or softphone service for the fast repairs, in my opinion. If you have a dropped iPod Touch classic or whatever it is called the repair can be rather slow through normal channels. I have always liked the idea of making international calls from my mobile phone, even if they are hard to repair if dropped.
